Admissions

We warmly welcome visits from prospective parents and/or carers and their children.

The villages of Chapmanslade and Corsley make up our immediate catchment area. However, our pupils come from a range of postal addresses including the towns of Westbury and Frome, and many villages in between.

For New Reception Pupils

We hold Open Days from September- January and strongly encourage visits to the school. If you feel that Chapmanslade is the right school for your child, you are advised to list the school as your first choice.

Once you have accepted a place at Chapmanslade School, you will be invited to an introductory evening for new parents in July; our Reception Class teacher will make an initial visit to meet your child in his/her pre-school or nursery setting during June; and new pupils have visiting sessions in July.

To arrange a tour

Please ring the school office on 01373 832367 to arrange a convenient time to see the school in action and meet us.

All applications for admission are made through Wiltshire Council, by phone OR by following the link below:

When can my child start school?

Most children start school in the September following their fourth birthday. However, by law a child does not have to start school until the term following their fifth birthday.

Child's Birthday Start School
1 September 2021 to 31 August 2022 September 2026
1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023 September 2027
1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024 September 2028

All reception age children are offered full time places when they start at our school. If parents want their child to attend part time from September, or to delay entry until later on in the academic year, please contact us directly to arrange this.

If you wish your child to defer their start, it is a slightly different process. For further information can be found on the Wiltshire Council website:

How to apply for a place at Chapmanslade School

Our planned admission number (PAN) in each year group is 15 from September 2026.

For children due to start school in September 2026, you must apply to Wiltshire Council for a school place for your child by midnight on 15th January 2026.

Wiltshire residents should apply online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk.

Non-Wiltshire residents should apply to their own local authority for a place in this school. This also applies to families planning to move to the area (except service personnel, see below).

In the event of over-subscription, we will apply our Admissions Policy's criteria for determining priority of admission (see Admissions Policy).

Chapmanslade Primary School reserves the right to request parents to verify their child’s birth date by producing a birth certificate or other official document.

In year transfers (transferring from another school)

To transfer your child to Chapmanslade, you should complete an online Wiltshire transfer application form, even if you live outside the county using this link: Wiltshire Council In-year Transfer Online Form and Guidance

To transfer your child to a school outside Wiltshire, you should contact the home authority for the school to clarify the admissions process.

Applications for Other Year Groups

We currently have limited spaces available in years R, 1, 3, 5 & 6.

It is sometimes necessary to operate a waiting list for pupils who would like to join us. If a place becomes available, the criteria within our Admissions Policy will be used if there is more than one pupil waiting for a place in the same year group. We welcome visits to the school and can arrange a socially distanced tour. If you feel this is the right school for your child, a visiting day will be arranged so that prospective pupils feel confident about joining us. If you are moving, or have moved, into our catchment area, please contact the school office as soon as possible to discuss the availability of places.

Applications for Admissions on Religious Faith Grounds

The admissions policy for the school states that pupils will be considered for admission to the school if they attend church monthly for 6 months prior to their application.

In order to confirm church attendance, please ask your parish priest or minister to complete and sign this form which must be returned to the school by the date indicated.
